Why Pray?
Prayer is not passive, and it is not empty words spoken without purpose. Prayer is one of the ways God works in the earth through His people, bringing His will into situations and moving in power through faith. Scripture tells us, “The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much” (James 5:16).
We must understand that there is a spiritual battle taking place around us, whether people recognize it or not. The Bible makes it clear that our struggle is not merely natural, but spiritual: “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 6:12). The evil we see in the earth—abuse, trafficking, exploitation, and corruption—is evidence of darkness at work, and we can no longer ignore it or remain silent.
Prayer is how we stand against that darkness. Through prayer, we resist evil, reclaim ground the enemy has stolen, and invite the power of God to move in our families, communities, and nations. Jesus said, “Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them” (Matthew 18:19–20). There is power in unity, power in agreement, and power when believers stand together before God.
Now is not the time to stand by and do nothing. It is time to rise up in prayer, bring the light of heaven into the darkness, and stand firm against the evil happening in secret. Together, we will contend for truth, freedom, healing, and salvation, believing that God still moves powerfully through those who pray.
